French startup job market remains resilient in March

Against a tense backdrop, particularly on the international scene (increasing redundancy plans, bank failures, a slowdown in fund-raising, falling valuations, etc.), French startups are still holding their own in terms of job creation.

Although levels remain below those of 2022, French startups generated employment for the third consecutive month in March 2023. Even better, this growth is accelerating slightly compared to February. In fact, job-creating startups grew by 8%. Those maintaining jobs remained stable (+0.5%). At the same time, startups that have cut jobs are down by almost 15%.

This positive trend can also be seen at regional level. With the exception of Normandy, which saw a slight decline (down 8 jobs on the previous month), all French regions are in the “green” this month. The trend continues, with the Île-de-France and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regions leading the way in job creation in mainland France, with over 1,500 and 300 new jobs respectively in March 2023.

More than ever at the start of this year, the divide between metropolises and the rest of the metropolitan area is clear: jobs are essentially being created in the big cities!

Our sector analysis also reflects this upward trend, with all the top tech sectors adding jobs this month. Even if GreenTech ‘s growth is slightly down (11% less than in February), this sector has remained well ahead of the pack for more than a year. It’s also worth noting that HealthTech was the sector to gain the most places in this ranking in March. This is the first positive sign of a recovery, but it remains to be confirmed.

We look forward to seeing you at the beginning of May on baromètrestartups.fr to see if these trends become more pronounced in April.
